Filled with newly distilled spirit in 1963, The Balvenie Fifty, Cask 4567 was matured in a European oak sherry hogshead cask, rarely used today in whisky making. Over the following 50 years, while David Stewart committed himself to perfecting his craft, the spirit slowly matured into an impeccably well-rounded single malt.
Like the whisky, both bottle and case are works of art—and craft— in their own right. Individually filled at The Balvenie Distillery into hand blown glass bottles, The Balvenie Fifty is presented in a special wooden case built by Scottish craftsman Sam Chinnery. Each case consists of forty-nine wooden rings and a closing layer in brass, which echoes the fittings of the distillery’s stills and spirit safes. Bottled at cask strength of 45.4% ABV, just 15 bottles of this rare limited release are available in the US.
Rich and deep with an abundance of elegant oak, notes of sweet raisins and a subtle ginger spiciness.
Lush with dark fruits, a spicy outburst of ground ginger and cinnamon, and a lingering fruity sweetness.
